Fuels
Our renewable, No Compromise™ fuels have properties superior to those of existing renewable alternatives. Because they are hydrocarbon-based and compatible with existing engines, Amyris fuels bypass the challenges of current biofuels, such as ethanol and conventional biodiesel.
Amyris Renewable Diesel
Reducing carbon dioxide emissions without compromising engine performance, Amyris diesel solves many of the performance challenges, such as cold flow and stability, associated with conventional biodiesels. Amyris Renewable Diesel works well even at low temperatures, does not clog filters, and can be stored for a long period of time without degradation. Amyris Renewable Diesel offers a number of environmental benefits, including the elimination of sulfur and greatly reduced nitrogen oxides, particulate matter, carbon monoxide and hydrocarbon exhaust emissions.
Testing to date indicates that Amyris Renewable Diesel will not require engine or distribution infrastructure modifications. An independent third party has tested our fuel and determined that it performs as well or better than both petroleum-sourced diesel and biodiesel on many critical American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) certification metrics.
Amyris Renewable Jet
Amyris is also developing jet fuels which we believe will be competitive with existing petroleum-sourced jet fuel. A sustainable alternative, Amyris jet fuel performs well at low temperatures, can be produced using sugarcane as a feedstock, and meets initial certification criteria. We have begun testing a series of our jet fuels with major engine and aircraft manufacturers and plan to commercialize a renewable jet fuel as early as 2013.
