Amyris is a proud sponsor of this year’s Sustainable Innovation Forum (SIF), an affiliate event to the United Nation’s 26th global climate conference, Conference of the Parties (COP26). As the leader in synthetic biology rapidly transitioning the world to clean ingredients and sustainable consumption, Amyris is thrilled to join the community of environmental leaders at SIF 2021.
The COP26 summit promises to be the single most impactful sustainability event this year that brings together global leaders, investors, policy makers, and NGOs from around the world to tackle the most urgent challenge of our lifetime: climate change.
At the COP21 summit in December 2015, the Paris Agreement was established and adopted by nearly 200 parties to limit the global temperature increase to 2 degrees Celsius – ideally, less than 1.5 degrees – compared to pre-industrial levels. The Paris Agreement marked a milestone as the first legally binding international treaty in the fight against climate change, and the parties involved agreed to review their nations’ commitments every five years. COP26 takes place in Glasgow, Scotland from November 1-12, 2021.
SIF 2021 runs alongside COP26 and supports the same global agenda with leaders from the public and private sectors who can enact tangible climate action. The stakes are high for this year’s summit, as scientists have warned that countries need to urgently and immediately pivot away from fossil fuels.
As part of its mission to transition the world to sustainable consumption, Amyris aims to introduce the leadership community at COP26 and SIF to the vast potential of synthetic biology to build a more sustainable future. Biology is the most effective manufacturing model for making essential products more sustainable, economical, and higher performing – without the use of petroleum. Our goal for SIF and COP26 is to spark a global conversation with a central question: What role will synthetic biology play in disrupting manufacturing as we know it and inspire accelerated transformation across every industry, as varied as pharma, food, electronics, personal care, hygiene, and more?
You can read more on the importance of synthetic biology in driving a more sustainable future in an interview with Climate Action and Beth Bannerman, Chief Engagement and Sustainability Officer of Amyris. Beth Bannerman will also be speaking on panel at SIF about the important role that synthetic biology plays in marine conservation and its impact on human and planetary health. You can join this session in person or via livestream to hear from this panel of esteemed experts:
Why Marine Conservation Matters for Human and Planetary Health
Moderated by: Mark Barton, former Bloomberg TV anchor
Panelists: Beth Bannerman, Amyris; Mark Schrope, Schmidt Marine Technology Partners; Vladimir Ryabinin, UNESCO (Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission)
